Project Name/Description:
Farmer
Ipeleng Kwadi Seboni, a 31-year-old qualified teacher from Brits, North West, discovered her passion for farming through her parents, who involved her in the family farming business on their Motse-Motala farm. Following in her family’s footsteps, Ipeleng is now breeding Bonsmara cattle and running an agritourism business that takes advantage of the farm’s on-site camping site and dam for fishing.
Before fully committing to farming, Ipeleng taught at a primary school in Bodubelo, Garankuwa, for three years. During her time as a teacher, she made a significant impact through a school garden initiative. She adopted three schools, creating gardens that supported needy learners and contributed to their school nutrition programmes.
Ipeleng is deeply involved in youth agriculture, traveling across the country to engage with young farmers, discussing the challenges and successes of their agribusinesses. In 2022, she participated in the BRICS Youth Summit held in Durban, where she had the opportunity to engage with international youth from various sectors.
Currently, Ipeleng is actively participating in round table discussions with decision-makers within the agricultural sector, including both government and private stakeholders, to share the youth perspective on agriculture. She uses every platform available to share her stories of community development and her resilience in a leadership role traditionally dominated by men.
Ipeleng is also partnering with the World Food Forum, which provides a platform for young people at the national level to mobilise youth-led local action in their communities, aiming to achieve more sustainable agrifood systems.
