Marlene Joseph
Health and Safety/Women in Uniform
Nominee's Province:
Western Cape
Project Name/Description:
Community Worker
A woman described as an honest, dedicated, and committed person who is always ready to go the extra mile for her community, at whatever expense.
Joseph is known by those in her community as someone always ready to assist. She is the heart of her community’s social matters – a task she has never underestimated or taken for granted.
Dependable, and always making decisions based on values and morals, Joseph continues, with not so much noise, to be an invaluable community builder, making those around her believe there is indeed hope, for a better tomorrow.
Joseph’s descriptors have been those of being “unique and very funny. She can be very serious about things but can communicate with others. Our learners have benefited as she is helping them with craft work and reading.”
Joseph, a grandmother still takes interest in her grandkids’ soccer and darts, has no plans to stop as she continues to get involved in health awareness programmes, and chips in with helping those needing physical and emotional support.
Joseph says: “I’m always willing to assist the elderly and the youth. I invite the elderly to a club where we keep them fit. Over and above, we further assist them with stuff such as checking their blood pressure, and sugar levels and cutting their nails.”
“I also do my best to assist street kids, and encourage young people to stop using drugs, and always pleased to see some of them getting jobs. My passion is to help young and old people and emphasise that they should take care of their health. “
