Health and Safety/Women in Uniform
Nominee's Province:
Free State
Project Name/Description:
V.I.P Protector, Office of the Executive Mayor, Metsimaholo Local Municipality
Kompe works in a male-dominated industry that requires her to put in the extra work, and always think of how best to show up as she is naturally someone seeking to be competent, in every job she does.
Besides the stringent requirements of being in good physical health, Kompe says the bigger picture here is to inspire young women, to show them that once you put your mind to it, it’s possible.
Born in Jouberton, Klerksdorp in North West, Kompe had to be brave and chart a career where she would enjoy herself, particularly after the difficult time when she lost her husband – she knew how best to work hard, and properly be there for her kids. One of the strongest teachings she likes imparting, even to her two sons, is that there is no need to compare yourself to anyone, we each must run our races, and be defined by those.
Kompe’s dedication has seen her getting involved in community work, particularly projects aimed at helping kids and the elderly – she has no intention to stop, despite the demands of her busy schedule.
She says: “I am dedicated to making a difference in the community and strongly believe that nothing is impossible if you put your mind to it.”
Kompe lives by the quote: “Never allow circumstances to determine your future.”
