Mbombo, throughout her career, has unselfishly dedicated her time to the training of health professionals, and empowering her community.
Over the decades, Mbombo has accumulated worthwhile experience in fields such as healthcare, academia, public service and corporate governance, and she has no plans to stop.
Mbombo has previously served as MEC of Health and Wellness in the Western Cape from 2014 to 2024. During her tenure, she led the department as an innovative health hub in Africa and was at the forefront during the Covid-19 pandemic.
As a qualified board director and consultant, she has advised governments and multinational corporations, bringing her unique perspective on health policy, gender equality, LGBTQIA+ rights, and community development to global forums.
Mbombo has a PhD in Gender and Human Rights from the University of the Western Cape and a master’s degree in Maternal & Child Health from the University of KwaZulu-Natal.
Mbombo’s mantra is: “Where I am planted, I grow,” which reflects her commitment to excellence and positive change in every role she undertakes, from hospital wards to legislative chambers and international conferences.
