Shambolic music awards
Bar the many empty seats, even the artists just did not bother to grace the event to collect their honours. Even the overly present Sport, Arts and Culture Minister Zizi Kodwa could not take it. Man was gone as soon as he presented the Lifetime achievement awards. Surely there was more vibe and fun somewhere else in Sandton for the minister.
Maphorisa’s sidekick, Kabza de Small who was there but quickly disappeared after collecting the bag and was nowhere to collect his awards later, and he and Phori had their ice boys to collect their awards.
But the ice boys were so chaotic themselves. Shwa was left embarrassed when one had to pull back after another emerged from a different side and was first to reach the stage.
It was a battle for limelight for the ice boys. Hhayi bandla!
Despite many artists pulling a no show to collect their awards, which obviously saved time, the production team still saw it fit to terminate “thank you” speeches from those that honoured the shambolic showpiece.
To start blasting sound effects when a legend of Ihhash’Elimhlophe’s stature is thanking his family after being bestowed with the Lifetime Achievement Award is just plain rude.
The chaos in production did not end there, the most embarrassing one was right at the end of the main event when the Record of the Year Winner, Stimela by the Lesotho national Ntate Stunna was announced by the playing of the video first before the opening of the envelope and announcement by the award presenter. Disastrous!
People were so confused, lol.
