Johannesburg – Enough whining, this week I was a VIP as Sofnfree wined and dined South African Music Awards (Samas) nominees.
The hair brand hosted nominees in the Female of the Year category for the Samas, which will take place on July 1.
The glamorous brunch was an exclusive gathering with a select few.
It was held at Vuyo’s restaurant in Soweto, where a billboard of the stars was revealed.
Award-winning singer Nomcebo Zikode mingled with fans who were happy to see her humble self and to hear her telling the story of her rise to fame.
“I had given up on ever making it. I wrote the song Xola Moya Wam to console myself, but God changed things around for me and I’m nominated and started my foundation … blah blah blah,” she told those who cared to listen, while I was focused on my glass of champagne.
Shwa has seen and heard too many stories of stars’ humble beginnings.
Sho Madjozi was a no-show; no formal apology, nothing! Just missing in action.
Gospel singer Hlengiwe Ntombela, fondly known as Hle, is gracious and a delight to have in the entertainment industry.
“I’m so honoured to be nominated against such powerful women who I look up to,” she said.
She also made a noise while I rolled my eyes.
Reg ga e newcomer Reign Africa was late – not fashionably late, just extremely late, but we love her music.
Gospel singer Bucy Radebe unfortunately could not attend due to illness, but shared a video thanking her fans for their support.
Many still believe Makhadzi and Kelly Khumalo should have made it in this category, but we all know that the Samas are not a popularity contest.
