Ma’Mkhize bankrolls son’s musical ambition

Tycoon to fund album promotion

Tycoon businesswoman Shauwn “Ma’Mkhize” Mpisane has set aside funds to help her son Andile Mpisane promote his forthcoming debut album.

Andile, a trailblazing artist, has already released the album’s first single, Umcimbi, with the video on YouTube already surpassing a million views.

News that Ma’Mkhize, a KwaZulu-Natal construction mogul and philanthropist, would sponsor Andile’s music tour, was confirmed by the artist’s manager, Ability Ngcobo, last week.

“You remember he went to his mom and asked for R1-million to shoot the music video, she gave him money to shoot it, but the video budget was way less than the amount he requested.

So, she is helping him financially again to promote his music so that it can have a national appeal,” said Ngcobo.

Speaking to Sunday World, Andile confirmed that he would embark on a music tour to promote his hybrid album after the lockdown.

He said apart from the killer track Umcimbi, which features Madanon and Distruction Boyz, he has already composed several ditties for the album, which consist of amapiano and gqom tunes.

“I’m not married to one genre, I’m a versatile artist, hence there is amapiano and gqom songs in the album, which will be ready by the time lockdown ends. The tour will start here in KwaZulu-Natal, my home province, before I go to other provinces. Remember, I need to be appreciated at home before I can go and promote my music in other provinces. Once I’m satisfied that my fellow countrymen appreciate my music, I will then cross over to other African countries because my ambition is to be an international artist,” he said.
