Biggie says Dladla is his friend, brother
Durban-based entertainer Biggie has denied claims that he and Afrotainment musician Dladla Mshunqisi are “frenemies”.
Over the past three years, Dladla Mshunqisi has had to fend off claims that he did not like the emergence of Biggie in the Durban entertainment scene, especially because they produce a similar style and type of music – gqom.
Biggie, whose real name is Njabulo Zondi, told Sunday World that he and Dladla have been friends since 2007 and had become brothers.
“Dladla and I are most definitely not the industry frenemies. We have a genuine and long-standing friendship and brotherhood relationship dating as far back as 2007,” said Biggie.
“More to the friendship, we discovered that we share even the same surname from our maternal sides, which sealed our bond even more.”
The two entertainers also have the same build, similar sounding voices and performance style, and can easily be mistaken for each other.
The only difference is that Biggie has signed to record label Charlie Communication, while Dladla, whose real name is Anele Dladla, is with Afrotainment.
“Our voices are clearly defined, even though we both sing the same kind of music, gqom music,” said Biggie.
Dladla had promised to respond to questions sent to him but had not at the time of publication.
Biggie said he was hurt by the rumours that the two musicians did not support each other.
“Since entering the music career it has not been easy.
“There are many challenges that I had to overcome. Some of these challenges I’m still dealing with even now, especially because I’m still an upcoming artist and need mentoring,” said Biggie.
He has recently released his single titled Lokishi Lami.
