Meet the head of plastic surgery at Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital, Dr Brian Monaisa

Johannesburg – Dr Brian Monaisa focuses on the science of delaying ageing, writes Kuli Roberts.

I respect people who save lives and admire the work of doctor Brian Monaisa, who at 44 is the head of plastic surgery at Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital while also running his own private practice Marang Aesthetics.

The medical aesthetic spa focuses on skincare and body rejuvenation, the science of delaying ageing – Botox, fillers, weight loss and skin tightening – as well as vaginal rejuvenation services.

Monaisa’s practice offers the full range of cosmetic surgery with a special emphasis on breast enhancement, as well as body contouring.

But enough about things I could never afford, let’s find out what the doctor gets up to when he is not rejuvenating body parts.

Dr Brian Monaisa

We enjoy finding out what hard-working people do for leisure, so what do you do to unwind?

I do a lot of driving and enjoy the local art scene. (What the good doctor does not brag about is that he started Smile Artist Africa, a non-profit organisation that uses art to increase access to healthcare. By partnering with artists, Monaisa is able to raise money from art sales that is then used to fund reconstructive surgery for breast cancer survivors).

Since you love driving, what is your dream car and is it about speed?

Definitely a Porsche 911.
