Nomsa Sasa Madida creates her own range of products called SasaCosmetics

Johannesburg – After decades of writing about Beauty products its always a delight to discover Black-owned ranges and this week we look at Sowetan born, Nomsa Sasa Madida’s newly launched flagship range of local products, SasaCosmetics created by the Somatology student and make-up artist after her dissatisfaction with a make-up artist’s work years ago.

You are a Make up artist and founder of a Beauty range, tell us about it and how it came into fruition?

Sasa cosmetics has always been part of the plan, always been a dream. I knew it would happen I just didnt know when.

But as a makeup artist I kept finding loopholes in my field or industry like not enough colours for dark skin and remember not all dark skin is the same dark and this has always been an issue.

I knew if I had to start it would be where exactly. I live for contouring so I created a contour palette that is for all skin tones and ethnicities, the palette has colours for every woman of all skin tones. And I also created subtle lip colours for everyday women and also the right red lip colour for dark skin. I also found women struggle with makeup brushes as to what they’re for, so Sasa Cosmetics made it easy and created a range.

Do you have to be rich to start a range?

No, not at all but it does require a bit of start up cash and discipline, so in my case I used my savings, I had no funding at all. It’s more like an investment to me.

Who is your favourite Make up artist?

I look up to Huda Kattan, quite an inspiration for me right now. But here in SA I’m inspired by mama Faith Seoue, mama Esme Mashugane, khungeka (all these are veterans).

What’s your favourite lipstick?

‘Sway’ and ‘Pumpkin’ from Sasa Cosmetics.

Please give us 5 hot trends for Spring?

A nice liquid liner – light lashes -can’t go wrong with bronzer on the cheeks – ‘boho’ or ‘crystal’ lipgloss from Sasa cosmetics

Would you ever go back to musician Speedy because you two were a cute couple?

Oh my goodness, NO. But we’re very good friends.

Where can we get your products from?

For now on my social media platforms, @Sasacosmeticssa @ @Nomsamadida for now.

Who is your favourite celebrity who makes your job a pleasure?

Definitely Thembisa Mdoda who’s also a very good friend of mine and Somizi.

Local is certainly lekker especially when the owner and brand ambassador is Black.

Get Sasacosmetics and support people who look like you.
