Coronavirus cases hit 202

Confirmed cases of Covid-19 now stand at 202 persons in South Africa.

The announcement, which saw an increase of 52 patients in less than 24 hours, was made by the health minister Zweli Mkhize on Friday.

Mkhize said he was glad that the government introduced regulations which are aimed at reducing the rapid spread of the virus.

“It is really important because this is where the virus will be defeated, it is not in treating one patient that we are going to deal with the virus. It is preventing it from spreading too fast,” he said.

Mkhize said they aimed to prevent the virus from spreading in highly populated areas to prevent the number of patients pressurising the health system.

He said he was grateful that church leaders are helping in the fight by limiting the number of people attending services and cancelling Easter pilgrimages.

However, he urged religious people not to stop praying.

“We did indicate to the members of the church, as leaders, that leaders and society must not fear the virus and panic,” he said.
