As South Africa braces for pivotal national elections, the DA has expressed confidence in their strongest campaign to date, highlighting a robust ground force and significant voter engagement.
The party’s readiness and optimism were showcased at a media briefing held at Willowmoore Stadium in Benoni, where the DA’s National Final Rally will take place this Sunday.
DA National spokesperson Solly Malatsi, deputy campaign manager Ashor Sarupen, MC Karabo Khakhau and Liam Jacobs addressed the media. they outlined their strategy and enthusiasm for the upcoming elections.
Sarupen emphasised the importance of voter turnout and the DA’s extensive groundwork over the past two years.
Strongest ever campaign
“The DA has run probably our strongest-ever campaign,” he stated. “Elections are not won based on events but on votes. For that to happen, parties need to have spoken to many voters across the country, which is what we have done. We know exactly how many DA supporters are out there. [Our party is] on track for one of our best-ever election results.”
Sarupen underscored the significance of the upcoming elections, suggesting a potential shift in the political landscape. “This election presents a historic opportunity to get the ANC under 50%. Currently, there are more opposition voters on the ground than there are ANC voters. If every single opposition voter pitches up to vote on Wednesday, and most of them will vote for the DA, it will be tough for the ANC. It is all about turnout.”
He further highlighted the transformative potential of a high opposition voter turnout. “If every opposition voter votes, we are going to have a whole different country on Thursday. [It will be] different from what it would have been on Wednesday.”
Supporters at final rally to be from Gauteng
Addressing logistical concerns, Malatsi clarified that all supporters attending the rally would be from Gauteng. He dismissed any plans to transport supporters from other provinces.
Khakhau, one of the MCs, spoke passionately about the dual purpose of the rally.
She stated that the DA’s final rally is expected to be a vibrant event. It will celebrate the party’s journey and galvanising support ahead of the critical elections.
“The thousands of people that are going to be here are not only going to hear about what we plan to do. Bu they are also going to celebrate how far we have come as the Democratic Alliance in our campaign. This is the moment we have all been waiting for to rescue South Africa,” she said.
