A 44-year-old father who sexually assaulted his biological son has been sentenced to two life terms by the Secunda regional court on Wednesday.
He was found guilty of having raped the six-year-old boy on two occasions.
The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) reports that the first incident happened in 2020 when the victim’s mother was outside doing laundry.
NPA spokesperson Monica Nyuswa said the man took the victim to the bedroom and sexually violated him.
“The victim informed his mother that he is bleeding when he is going to the toilet and the mother thought that he got injured because he is a boy and he played rough. In the next incident, the convict and the victim’s mother were drinking when the accused took the victim to the bedroom and sexually violated him. His mother walked into the bedroom and found him raping the child. The mother reported the matter to the police,” said Nyuswa.
In court, the father denied the allegations leveled against him.
State Prosecutor Grace Khotsa, led evidence of the victim who was able to give his testimony using intermediary services. Presented before the court, the evidence of a first report was supported by a medical report which proved that the victim sustained serious injuries when the incident happened.
The court ordered the accused person’s name to be entered into the National Register for Sexual Offenders, he was declared unfit to work with children, and was further declared unfit to possess a firearm.
