The murder trial of former ANC Youth League (ANCYL) secretary-general Sindiso Magaqa hit another stumbling block on Tuesday when the Pietermaritzburg magistrate’s court heard that the ballistic report is still outstanding.
The case will now resume on Wednesday next week.
Meanwhile, the findings of the preliminary psychiatric report have revealed that accused number three Mlungisi Ncalane is fit to stand trial. This after he was booked for a mental evaluation.
Ncalane, Sibonelo Myeza, Mbulelo Mpofana, and Sibusiso Ncengwa face numerous charges including murder, possession of illegal firearms, and stolen property.
Thirty-five-year-old Magaqa, a ward councillor in Umzimkhulu, southern KwaZulu-Natal died at the Albert Luthuli Hospital in Durban in July 2017 from gunshot wounds sustained in a suspected ambush.
Magaqa and two other Umzimkhulu ANC councillors were shot on July 13 while on their way back from an ANC meeting. At the time of his death, Magaqa was also a member of the mayoral committee.
