Free State Education sector mourns the death of young teacher

A Free State teacher, Selwyn Petrus Moos, died tragically in a car accident between Bloemfontein and Jagersfontein on Tuesday evening.

The 34-year-old teacher Moos was returning home from a matric marking centre in Bloemfontein when he met his unfortunate fate.


The grade 12 Physical Science and Mathematics teacher is said to have been an asset to the province. MEC for Education, Dr Tate Makgoe expressed his sadness on the loss stating that the death of the young teacher was great loss to the education sector.

Makgoe said: “At the age of 34, this talented, skillful, and energetic teacher still had 31 years before his official retirement age. So, we have been robbed kannete.”

Basic Education Minister, Angie Motshekga has also conveyed her condolences to the family and colleagues of the deceased.

“Just when we thought marking had proceeded well without any incident, now we receive the shocking news of this horrific accident,” she said.

Motshekga  urged road users to obey the rules of the road to ensure that everyone arrives alive.
