Fraudsters ask the contacts for money
Durban-based Afro House artist Holly Wasserfall, whose stage, name is Holly Rey, is the latest Mzansi artist to be hit by a cash scam.
This comes after the scammers – who have been terrorising Mzansi artists like Master KG, Prince Kaybee, Vigro Deep and DJ Somebody – allegedly tried their luck with Holley, her mother Vivian and the musician’s manager Banele Tshambo.
The Deeper and Last Night Lover hitmaker confirmed to Sunday World that the scammers hacked her cellphone as well as Tshambo’s and started asking for money from her mother and her.
“It’s sickening that people can go this length to try and get easy money from other people pretending to be somebody else. We were lucky that when they tried their luck with my mother, she was together with Banele,” she said before directing the paper to the manager.
Tshambo confirmed that his cellphone had been hacked and that the scammers had asked for R4 700 from Vivian.
“Luck was not on their side because when they asked for money using my number on WhatsApp, I was with Vivian and told her that it was the scammers. They had spent a whole week trying to hack it. I knew because they kept calling me but they were not speaking – only breathing on the line,” he said.
Tshambo warned other artists and people in the music industry not to help anyone asking for money in his name.
“They tried it too with Holley, her mother and other people who are close to me. I’m asking the public not to entertain anyone who is asking for money to bail out Banele, whom they claim was arrested for speeding. I have never been arrested and I’m not about to be arrested. Their days are numbered as I have informed all the relevant organisations to trace these people down. I was advised not to open a case because the authorities want to pounce on them unexpectedly.”
