IFP founder Buthelezi’s family mourns loss of daughter Angela

Messages of condolence are pouring in following the untimely death of Royal Highness Princess and IFP MP Sibuyiselwe Angela Buthelezi.

Buthelezi, the lastborn daughter of the late IFP founder Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi, died on Monday.

Prince Ntuthukoyezwe Zuzifa Buthelezi, his brother, made the announcement on behalf of the Buthelezi family.

He wrote in a statement: “Princess Angela departed this world quite unexpectedly, having been admitted to the hospital in Cape Town a week ago.

“She had taken ill while in Cape Town to attend a sitting of parliament where she served as a member of the National Assembly.

“Together with my elder sister, the honourable Princess Phumzile Nokuphiwa Buthelezi MPL [member of the provincial legislature], Princess Angela and I were the last remaining children of uMntwana wakwaPhindangene [Mangosuthu Buthelezi], among eight siblings.”

He described the loss of Princess Angel just a year after the passing of their father as a terrible shock.

Poor health

Princess Angela had poor health for a number of years, according to Zuzifa. The family did not anticipate her death, though.

Princess Angela is survived by her only child, Princess Ntando Nkeiruka, who was always by her side.

“Our deepest sympathy is with our niece at this painful time,” said Zuzifa.

“The details of the funeral will be shared in due course. For now, we simply share our heartache with the nation, which our sister served with such dedication.”
