IPHC leader walks down the aisle with wife Mamakgotla

A cornucopia of epithalamiums and ululations reverberated at International Pentecostal Holiness Church’s Kwa-Thema branch on Sunday when its leader, comforter Tshepiso Modise, tied the knot with his beautiful wife, Mamakgotla Modise.

Modise, who was dressed by Jeff Seleka International and Gucci, Milan, and his wife by Orapeleng Modutle and The Xviii Victorian, arrived separately at the picturesque venue, all visibly filled with felicity.

They then held hands and merrily danced to hymeneal songs belted out by guests and church members.

Minister of International Relations and Corporation, Prince Stefano Matewos of the Ethiopian Imperial Family, Deputy Minister of Local Government and Traditional Affairs, Dickson Namane Masemola, and Bapedi nation queen Manyaku Thulare III, who all looked glam, attended the jamboree and also gave words of well wishes.

A guest, who spoke to Sunday World on condition of anonymity, said they were happy that the groom walked down the aisle with the belle of his dreams.

“We wish them good luck. The comforter married a beautiful woman in Mamakgotla.”

Another guest couldn’t hide his happiness for the newlywed lovers, saying they both possess unquestionable moral rectitude and probity. “May the good Lord be with them,” he said.

The wedding, which was dubbed the mother of all weddings, came after the comforter paid an undisclosed amount of dowry to his wife’s family in Limpopo about two years ago.

“All the cultural and traditional protocols were observed before this wedding because the comforter paid lobola for his wife; hence, the theme was ‘blessing their union,’” said the guest.

Modise took the podium towards the end of the shindig and expressed words of gratitude to the guests who came to celebrate his nuptials.

“We have invited you to bear witness and enjoy this moment with us as we appear before the altar to ask the Almighty God to bless this marriage.

“Jesus said to the Samaritan woman in John 4:24 that God is spirit. And Genesis 1:27 says that God created mankind in his image. That means man is spirit,” he said.

The Bible puncher added that the Bible further said that people’s bodies are the temple of God.

Therefore, he said, anything that they want to happen within the temple, they must ask permission from God, as he holds its title deed.

“God, who is the only deity that has the power to unite the two spirits that live separately in each temple, as it is emphasised in Ephesians 5:31, that man shall leave his father and mother and become one with his wife.

“With all that being said, may the Lord bless this union in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.”

The second leg of the wedding, titled “cutting cake,” will be held at the Modise house in Meadowlands on a date to be announced.

Meanwhile, the house will be a hive of activity today as community members, the comforter, and government officials gather to commemorate the 70th anniversary of Sophiatown’s forced removals.
