Limpopo man in jail for brutal murders of three family members

A 27-year-old man is in jail waiting to appear in court after he was arrested for allegedly killing his mother, sister and nephew.

The gruesome incident took place at Breda village in Gilead outside Mokopane, Limpopo on Monday. The suspect is due in the Mahwelereng magistrate’s court on Wednesday to answer to charges of murder.

Police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba explained: “Police responded to a complaint at about 11am after community members alerted them about domestic violence taking place at the house where an elderly son allegedly hacked his own mother with an axe, then went after his sister and nephew.

“Upon arrival at the scene, the three victims were certified dead by the paramedics, whereas the suspect was arrested shortly near his home. Police have opened three counts of murder. The motive for this merciless killing is still unknown at this stage.”

Ledwaba said the deceased were identified as Johanna Seanego, 59, Matome Seanego, 19, and 10-year-old Tebogo Mashilo Seanego.

Lieutenant-General Thembi Hadebe, provincial police commissioner in Limpopo, strongly condemned the attack.

“We are extremely appalled by the incident and the atrocious manner in which the family members were killed allegedly by their own relative,” Hadebe said.

“We commend the police for arresting the suspect who must face the consequences for his alleged horrendous actions.

“Members of the community are advised to seek professional help when faced with domestic challenges.”
