The man who is a suspect in the gruesome of his girlfriend in Limpopo is thanking the police from rescuing him from a lynching mob.

The 37-year-old man was being attacked with various objects when police were alerted and arrived to rescue him, police spokesperson Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba said.

“On arrival, with backup from the members of Public Order Policing, [the officers] managed to rescue him,” Mashaba said.

The suspect, on being saved from the mob, was arrested and taken to hospital where he is recovering from his injuries under police guard.

He is expected to appear for murder at the Seshego magistrate’s court as soon as he becomes better.

Meanwhile, the Limpopo police chief has strongly warned against mob justice.

Provincial commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, said as much as police  appreciate the help of the community in apprehending crime suspects, people must desist from taking the law into their hands.

“If there is any crime committed, the police should be alerted so that investigations can commence,” said Hadebe.
