Matric pupil Mbuyiseni Khumalo will know on Wednesday whether he will be granted bail to complete his 2023 exams.
Khumalo, 20, appeared in the Dundee magistrate’s court to face a charge of murder for allegedly stabbing another matric pupil Ndumiso Mchunu 18 times.
The deadly feud was apparently sparked by a fight over a woman. The shocking incident took place at Sibongile township in Dundee.
Khumalo is alleged to have accused the deceased of outsmarting him in a love contest.
In a fit of rage, Khumalo is alleged to have inflicted the deadly stabbing wounds on Mchunu with a knife. Mchunu was stabbed 18 times.
On Tuesday, Khumalo’s attorney Seema Hoosen argued that he should be set free on grounds that he was a first-time offender.
“My client asks the court to grant him bail so that he can complete his exams,” Hoosen told the court.
But prosecutor Mphakamiseni Mdlalose would have none of that, saying the accused had raised feeble arguments. He said the state would argue for the accused to be kept in custody because he was a danger to society.
