State advocate George Baloyi has confirmed that forensic officer Thabo Mosia would be returning to the stand for further grilling at the Pretoria High Court on Tuesday.
This after the defence picked up discrepancies in his testimony and pocketbook entries he made while combing through the crime scene where football star Senzo Meyiwa was killed.
Meyiwa was gunned down at the home of his then-girlfriend Kelly Khumalo in Vosloorus, east of Johannesburg on October 26 2014.
Bongani Ntanzi, Muzikawukhulelwa Sibiya, Mthobisi Mncube, Mthokoziseni Maphisa, and Fisokuhle Ntuli are on trial for Meyiwa’s murder and have all entered pleas of not guilty.
Mosia, who was one of the first forensic officers to arrive at the scene, previously testified that he was on standby duty on the fateful night.
According to him, he received a call from Brigadier Philani Ndlovu at 10.45pm regarding the crime scene where Meyiwa was shot and killed.
Spearheading a call for Mosia’s return to the stand, advocate Zithulele Nxumalo pointed out discrepancies between Mosia’s oral testimony and documentary evidence.
Nxumalo suggested that the forensic officer attended another crime scene before reaching the Khumalo home.
“My lord, I would appreciate it if he were recalled,” said Nxumalo.
“There is a discrepancy in the [oral evidence] and the documentary evidence, in a sense that he said he went to attend a business robbery from the scene of this case.
“But when one looks at this document, he visited that scene [the business robbery] at 10.50pm before he came to the scene of this case.”
Zandile Mshololo, defence lawyer for accused number five, also requested that Mosia be brought back in court to be cross-examined on cases he purportedly attended on that day.
The trial continues…
