Ford Motor Company has recalled the Ford Ranger light commercial vehicle that was put on the market in 2024.
The American multinational automobile manufacturer headquartered in Dearborn, Michigan, United States, released the car with a number of defects.
On Thursday, the National Consumer Commission (NCC) confirmed this recall.
“Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa informed the NCC that the recall is due to the front lower control arm (FLCA) that may have been fitted on the left-hand side of the vehicle instead of the correct front lower control arm (FLCA).
“The separation of the joint may result in loss of control of the affected wheel, with the corresponding effect on the vehicle handling increasing,” said NCC.
According to a statement issued by the NCC on Thursday, this could raise the possibility of an accident or harm.
“In addition to being transported to Namibia, Botswana, and Swaziland, these cars were distributed around the country. It is necessary for customers to schedule an appointment with the closest authorised dealership,” NCC added.
Dudu Nxele, the Corporate Communications Manager at Ford, confirmed that the company has identified that in some of the affected vehicles, an incorrect FLCA may have been fitted on the left-hand side of the vehicle.
“An incorrect FLCA may cause a degradation in wheel control and related suspension/underbody noise, for example, knocking or clunking. Separation of the joint may result in loss of control of the affected wheel with a corresponding effect on vehicle handling, increasing the risk of crash or injury,” said Nxele.
She told Sunday World that approximately 25 vehicles are affected in Southern Africa (South Africa and Botswana).
“Customers of affected vehicles should contact their preferred dealer to schedule an appointment. The dealer will inspect the vehicle and make the necessary repairs.
“This service will be performed on all affected vehicles at no charge to the vehicle owner,” Nxele added.
This comes after the NCC last week announced the number of vehicles, including Jeep Wrangler, Chrysler 300C, Citroën C4, DS4 and DS5 models, Mercedes-Benz CLA (118) and S-Class (model series 223), Audi, VW Polo Sedan and Volvo XC90 models have been recalled.
