Politically, the decision of the ANC for a GNU is tactically superior, yet risky. This because the stance essentially is a long rope handed to other parties to hang themselves. Already, the EFF and the DA are at each other’s throat, saying they do not want to be part of a GNU if the other is also part of it.
The move is political manoeuvring on steroids because the ANC will also be able to cover its back from the inevitable offensive by its branches. When branches start asking: why did you choose so and so and not so and so, the top brass of the party can say we invited everyone, some decided not to come so we never chose anyone.
Also, the GNU is another smart way to stay in power without outright majority for the ANC. Smart move, Khongi!
