It is often said that preparations for the next elections start the very second the last vote is cast, even though the polls are five years apart. Generations to come will see May 29 as a historic date that SA took a step, if not a leap, into the future.
And central to all that, the proverbial centre that held was the Independent Electoral Commission, the IEC. Granted there were problems galore, but the organisation pulled off a mammoth task that only they could.
No wonder their expertise is sought-after around the globe when other nations hold elections. That’s why we are chuffed no end.
