Pastor Mosa Sono’s son nabbed for dodging wine bill

The son of a popular man of the cloth, Mosa Sono, of Grace Bible Church, has been arrested by the police after failing to pay for the nectar of the gods, among others, he ordered and consumed at a trendy Midrand restaurant last weekend.

Nkateko Sono spent the weekend in police holding cells at Midrand police station after he was nabbed and charged with bilking two Saturdays ago.

According to a detective, who did not want to be named because he is not allowed to speak to the media, Sono Jr., who was spiffed up, waltzed into Felice restaurant in Carlswald, Midrand, and ordered copious volumes of red wine and Red Bull and wolfed them down.

The son of the respected vicar then ordered a few bottles of sparkling water to wash down the fermented grapes.

When the waiters who served him presented a R682 bill to him, he told them he did not have the Benjamins to pay, saying he was struggling to connect to his bank app.

It is alleged that some of the customers who were disgusted by his conduct asked the restaurant employees to beat the brakes off him while others asked them to turf him out.

But restaurant management decided to phone the police to come and arrest him. The cops arrived, arrested Sono, and detained him at the police holding cells.

He appeared in the Midrand Magistrate’s Court on Monday for bilking and was released on R1,500 bail.

The cop’s version was corroborated by a police statement compiled after Sono’s arrest.

The statement, which Sunday World has seen, confirms that Sono (34) tried to dodge the payment after consuming the firewaters.

“On Saturday, 2025-01-18, the above-mentioned suspect went to the above-mentioned restaurant, and he ordered wine, Red Bull, and sparkling water to the value of R682, and after consuming the above order, he was given the bill to settle, and he failed to pay the amount of R682, saying he can’t connect with his bank,” the statement read.

“A case docket of bilking was opened, and he was arrested and detained at Midrand police cells, facing bilking charges.”

NPA South Gauteng spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane confirmed Sono’s arrest, his appearance in court, and his release on a R1,500 bail.
