Popular Thobela FM kiddies show host Johannah “JJ Menu” Sebolaishi-Seloga was in hospital for a surgery when she met her death.
Seloga succumbed to a long illness at the Polokwane Provincial hospital on Monday where she was admitted in September.
The radio host will be remembered at a memorial service scheduled to take place at the Nirvana Hall in Polokwane on Thursday.
Seloga was a sickly person
She will be laid to rest on Saturday morning.
Speaking to Sunday World on Thursday, Seloga’s husband Isaiah said the broadcaster was in and out of the hospital since the year started.
“She was a sickly person,” Isaiah said.
“She was in pain for the longest time but used to hide it very well because she was cheerful and people would not realise that even though she sounded so happy on air, she was battling in silence.”
Doctors detect an infection
Seloga underwent an operation earlier in the year, and following its success, she was admitted to the hospital after the doctors detected an infection in her womb.
She was booked for another surgery.
“She was fine for a while after the operation but then she had to be admitted again after complaining of pains,” he said.
“She was in hospital for over a month but her situation was becoming better because she was even taken out of the critical care [ward].”
The husband added that he is grateful for the support from Thobela FM and officials from local government, who have been comforting him and the couple’s three children.
He said the family will carry on with his wife’s legacy and desire to see young children growing up in the church through her annual event “Battle of the Sunday Schools”, which sees children showcase their talents in church.
Seloga was popular among young listeners and parents for her calming voice and coining the phrase bakgotse baka ba botsana botsana (my beautiful friends) on her Sunday spiritual show on Thobela FM.
She was 39 years old at the time of her death.
