South Africa’s property sector is mourning the death of Marc Wainer, founder Redefine Properties who passed away at the age of 71, on Monday.
The legendary property investor and developer left his position as Redefine’s executive chairman at the end of August 2019 last year.
The group has more than 300 local properties with last reported total assets exceeding R100 billion.
Redefine Properties CEO, Andrew Konig, said Wainer was instrumental in transforming Redefine Properties into a global company with interests in commercial property diversifying into new markets such as Poland, United Kingdom, Germany and Australia
“His passing away is also a huge loss to the sector and we will all miss his guidance and encouragement. Marc always said that people are the only thing that matters,” said Konig.
“Our tribute to him will be who we say we are and continue to grow the business he founded and continue to manage and create our spaces in a way that purposefully changes lives.”
Vuyiswa Mutshekwane, CEO of the South African Institute of Black Property Practitioners (SAIBPP), said the property sector has lost a great leader and pioneer.
The South African Property Owners Association (SAPOA), said in a statement:” Marc is acknowledged for his ground-breaking deals, his role in the development of Canal Walk, the Attfund, ApexH and the Fountainhead deals.”
