Motorists have received some relief as the price of all grades of fuel for the month of June will decrease at midnight.
In a statement released by the Central Energy Fund on behalf of the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy, the department said the prices for all grades of petrol have decreased for the month of June.
The department said the price of both grades of Petrol 93 & 95 (ULP & LRP) will decrease by R1.24 cents per litre.
It said diesel with 0.05% sulphur will decline by R1.18 cents per litre in wholesale price.
The diesel 0.005% sulphur will see a R1.08 cents per litre decrease in wholesale price.
Illuminating paraffin (wholesale) will see a R0.80 cents per litre decrease in wholesale price.
The illuminating paraffin (SMNRP) has a R1.07 cents per litre decrease in the single maximum national retail price (SMNRP).
Average international product prices decreased
LPGAS will see a R1.35 cents per kilogram decrease in the maximum retail price.
The department said the average international product prices for petrol, diesel and illuminating paraffin decreased. This occurred during the period under review (April 26 2024 to May 30 2024).
The department said the factors that affected the adjustment in prices were that the Rand appreciated against the US dollar during the period under review. This was on average when compared to the previous period.
“The average Rand/US Dollar exchange rate for the period 26 April 2024 to 30 May 2024 was 18.4. This compared to 18.9036 during the previous period. The decrease led to a lower contribution to the Basic Fuel Prices. These are petrol, diesel and illuminating paraffin, by 30.91 c/l, 29.90 c/l and 30.03 c/l, respectively,” said the department.
