Mokheseng Jafta Mofokeng, who broke into the offices of the SABC in Bloemfontein in January 2022, is now spending his long days and nights behind high prison walls.
He was found through CCTV cameras and later engaged in a dramatic altercation with security officers, leaving him nursing a gunshot wound.
Mofokeng initially faced charges of burglary, trespassing, intimidation, and malicious damage to property.
However, the regional court in Bloemfontein only sentenced him for assault when he took the stand on Monday.
The 29-year-old was sentenced to a fine of R5 000 or six months imprisonment wholly suspended for five years provided he does not commit a similar offence.
Warrant Officer Fikiswa Matoti confirmed that the matter has been concluded.
“The conviction comes after Mofokeng was arrested by security personnel on SABC premises in Bloemfontein on January 16 2022,” said Matoti.
“He had entered unnoticed. When confronted, he became aggressive and assaulted one of the security officers.
“The matter was brought to the attention of the Hawks’ serious organised crime unit which conducted a thorough investigation.”
