The two prison bosses Sunday World exposed of dating and sleeping with the wives of inmates locked in their facilities are being investigated for possible rape as they allegedly forced the women to have sex with them to ensure their husbands wouldn’t be ill treated in prison.
Shortly after Sunday World hit the streets with the exposé, one of them submitted a sick leave and the other has been showing a brave face at work.
Sunday World can today exclusively reveal that one of the women who was allegedly forced to have sex with Groenpunt prison boss, Joseph “Joel” Nkoli, was interviewed by department of correctional services (DCS) investigators this week.
Correctional services commissioner Sam Thobakgale set up a team to investigate the men following our exposé.
The department spokesperson, Singabakho Nxumalo, confirmed an investigation was launched. “The department of correctional services is conducting an investigation based on the allegations raised. An investigation involves a number of stipulated processes to be followed and DCS is doing that. It is thus important that we limit running commentary as that may jeopardise the investigation as we also have a duty to protect those that have been identified as persons of interest.” Nxumalo said.
Sunday World can also reveal that one prisoner, whose wife allegedly had sex with Nkoli, was also interviewed by the investigators and gave a detailed account of his alleged victimisation by the prison boss before his wife caved in.
The woman, who asked not to be named, confirmed to Sunday World this week that she was also interviewed and she was happy the department launched an investigation. “I am the voice to all the voiceless women who have been pushed into tight corners to be used for sex in
exchange for the freedom of their loved ones.”
“I am grateful to Sunday World for helping us expose those ruthless ba**st.”
She also appealed to other women “who have been sexually victimised by the horny prison bosses to come forward”.
She said investigators told her they were looking at possible rape charges against the prison bosses.
“One of the investigators told me that they consider the matter to be rape as I was forced to have sex with the prison boss who was threatening and ill treating my husband in his facility. I am not proud of what I did but I had to do it because my man was suffering.”
Last week Sunday World exposed how two prison bosses, from Groenpunt and Zonderwater correctional facilities, allegedly stalked inmates’ wives after visiting their husbands and forced them to have sex or their men would be ill-treated, including being placed in solitary confinement.
We reported how Nkoli allegedly drove to Daveyton, east of Johannesburg, to visit one inmate’s wife and had sex with her at a guest house. We also revealed how Nkoli bombarded the woman with sexual WhatsApp messages asking for more sex with her and even telling her when he was horny.
Nkoli denied having sex with this woman and also of impregnating another woman and then forcing her to have an abortion.
A prisoner from Zonderwater Medium B, Koos Mlotshwa, this week reiterated that one of the prison bosses was having sex with his wife, whose name is known to Sunday World, and ill treating him.
His wife sent him a message, which we have seen, in which she said that “(name withheld) angeke akuyeke shem (name withheld) (he won’t leave you alone), futhi angeke akuzwe (and he won’t listen to you).”
Mlotshwa said he tried to submit a detailed affidavit exposing the boss for sleeping with his wife but he was stopped in his tracks.
We also reported last week that the boss is no stranger to controversy. He was arrested and charged with rape on December 29, 2011. The woman who opened the rape case against him was allegedly threatened to the point where she had to withdraw the case.
Even though the boss was facing a serious offence, he was released on R1 000 bail and reported back to work.
He was also convicted of culpable homicide in 2003 and sentenced to three years imprisonment, but he only spent one day at the Pretoria Correctional Centre and was released on bail pending his appeal against the conviction. He reported back to work on May 2005 as if nothing had happened.
The boss vehemently denied to Sunday World of shagging any inmate’s wife but admitted he was once charged with rape.
“I was charged with rape in 2011 and the complainant withdrew the charge..”
He also admitted he was convicted of culpable homicide.
“I was convicted for culpable homicide and sentenced to three years. I was put on bail pending my appeal,” he added.
