Popular Durban gospel artist Thinah Zungu says he harbours no animosity towards the brazen thugs who allegedly ransacked his Durban home last week.
The gun-wielding men are said to have forcefully made entry to Zungu’s eTafuleni home in Inanda, south of Durban. They held the Zungu family members at gunpoint before stealing their valuables. These include his vehicle and gadgets, estimated to be worth R500,000. The vehicle was, however, recovered on the same day.
“I’m grateful that they spared my life and that of my family. I’m not crying over the robbery and the entire ordeal because I believe this was a test from God. There’s a difference between test and punishment. Those who are in the spiritual realm understand that God works in mysterious ways,” said Zungu.
Robber’s kindness unexpected act of God
The award-winning musician, known for his hit song Ujesu ufika ekseni, also expressed his gratitude for the thug’s kindness. He said that although it was a robbery, one of the thugs kept the family at ease. One of the men was kind enough to allow his wife to dress up. He also gave them blankets to keep warm while others were loading the loot inside his car.
“He controlled the entire situation. [The thug] kept on referring to me as Manzini (Zungu) clan name. This helped us calm our nerves. I don’t care whether they were sent to my house or not. [It seemed like] he had no idea that they were coming to my house. He even offered water to my wife,” said Zungu, recalling the ordeal.
Apologised before fleeing
The man’s parting words, according to Zungu, were: Manzini ngiyaxolisa mfowethu (I’m sorry, my brother). I didn’t know what I was doing.”
KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson constable Thenjiswa Ngcobo confirmed that police were investigating a case of housebreaking and robbery.
“The suspects reportedly took various items, including an undisclosed sum of cash,” she said.
According to police crime statistics, Inanda is one of the crime hotspots in the country.
