ActionSA fires KZN municipality chief whip and bodyguard

ActionSA has fired its Newcastle Municipality chief whip Mzwakhe Mbatha and his bodyguard Sizwe Mokoena from the party.

They were dismissed following their suspension on Tuesday, pending the outcome of an investigation.  The party had found that the two have been involved in the misuse of municipality’s vehicle.

Zwakele Mncwango, ActionSA KZN provincial chairperson, said the seriousness of the matter demanded that investigations be thorough to ensure that all allegations are ventilated.

He promised that any member who acts outside the ActionSA code of conduct would be held accountable for their actions.

The two allegedly used the car for personal matters, including picking up women. However,  they kept pointing fingers at each other when the matter was questioned.

Section 4 of ActionSA’s interim constitution

“As outlined in Section 4 of ActionSA’s interim constitution, all members, staff, and public representatives are bound by the party’s code of conduct. And any conduct in breach thereof is escalated to the ethics and disciplinary committee,” said Mncwango.

Mcwango said the Ethics and Disciplinary Committee chairperson had conducted an investigation. The probe found that Mbatha and Mokoena’s actions had brought the party into disrepute.

He said the decision to terminate their membership was reached after extensive deliberation. Also after careful consideration that their public dispute has tainted and disregarded the party.

The dispute over municipal assets and their misuse did not align with the organisation’s values and principles. This according to Mncwango.

“As a party, we are committed to maintaining the highest standards of integrity, accountability, and transparency. Allowing any conduct that undermines these principles would be a disservice to our members and the South African public.

Violated the party’s ethical governance principles

“ActionSA is dedicated to creating a political environment where ethical governance prevails. We remain resolute in our mission to serve the people of South Africa with honour and distinction. This decision underscores our commitment to these ideals,” said Mncwango.
