ANC postpones nomination process for election of top leaders

The ANC has postponed the start of the nomination process for the election of its top leadership.

Nominations for the positions in the party’s top six posts, national working committee, and the national executive committee (NEC), which is the highest decision-making body between elective conferences, were supposed to commence on Wednesday.

ANC spokesperson Pule Mabe said the party would hold a special NEC meeting on Sunday to “adopt the final membership audit to finally pave a way for the start of nomination processes in accordance with the newly approved ANC electoral guidelines”.

“A more comprehensive briefing to provide an update on the nomination processes and other relevant details on the upcoming 55th national conference will be convened soon after the special NEC,” Mabe said in a statement.

The nominations process is set to culminate in provincial general councils that would announce the consolidated nominations for the positions.

The governing party is holding its national elective conference in December, during which it is expected that President Cyril Ramaphosa will be elected to serve a second term.
