Johannesburg – Condolences have been pouring in for the Mayor of the City of Johannesburg, Geoff Makhubo, who passed away earlier today.
The Gauteng Provincial Government said it is deeply saddened by the untimely passing on of the Mayor.
“Mayor Makhubo was a loyal and committed servant of the people who dedicated his time to the development of the City and the overall improvement in the quality of life for all the people of Johannesburg. In all the roles he has served in, he placed the wellbeing of the people above everything else- a true servant of the people,” the government said in a statement.
During his short term as the mayor of Johannesburg he elevated the agenda of fighting the devasting scourge of Covid-19, in which he passed on in the forefront of.
“We are shaken by deep sadness and feel the excruciating pain of losing Mayor Makhubo. I send my heartfelt condolences to the wife, Mrs Dikeledi Makhubo, children, close relatives, friends and comrades of Mayor Makhubo,” Premier Makhura said.
