Scopa gives Ramaphosa 10-day deadline

Johannesburg – President Cyril Ramaphosa is skating on thin ice as the parliament’s finance watchdog expects him to explain, in writing, the utterances the president made in a leaked audio recording about splashing party funds.

This comes after a leaked recording of Ramaphosa, where the president is apparently heard admitting to using public money for African National Congress (ANC) conducts.

Controversial ANC Member of Parliament, Mervyn Dirks was booted out by the governing party after he asked that President Cyril Ramaphosa be summoned to appear before Parliament’s finance overseer.

Yesterday, Dirks’ approached the court to have his suspension lifted and ruled “unlawful and unconstitutional”.

The court deemed the application, “not urgent” and struck it off the roll.

Consecutively, Scopa has requested the President to explain, in writing, his utterances in the leaked audio recording.

Scopa’s giving Ramaphosa only ten days to respond to its questions in writing.
