Embattled former president Jacob Zuma has the right to appeal the latest court ruling, according to the Jacob Zuma Foundation.
The foundation wrote on its social media account that the Constitutional Court had decided that the adverse decision of former judge president of the Supreme Court of Appeal, Mandia Maya, is appealable.
On Thursday, the apex court dismissed Zuma’s bid to force the removal of Billy Downer as the prosecutor in his corruption trial.
“Furthermore, H.E President Zuma can exercise his right to appeal the adverse decision of the high court directly to the Constitutional Court,” wrote the foundation.
Zuma had argued that Maya misdirected herself after finding no exceptional circumstances justifying the reconsideration of her court’s dismissal of his challenge to a ruling that Downer had the title (legal standing) to prosecute him.
Zuma is due back at the Pietermaritzburg High Court on October 17 for his corruption trial.
