Doja Cat’s absence from her father’s wedding raises eyebrows

America’s darling rapper Doja Cat’s absence from her estranged dad, Dumisani Dlamini’s wedding last weekend, was quite conspicuous.

The musician, born Amala Ratna Zandile Dlamini, released her new album Scarlet last week and is said to be focusing on her music.

Dlamini, South Africa’s legendary actor, celebrated his big day in Umhlanga, Durban at the weekend.

Aged 59, he exchanged vows with his new partner Ophelia Mulela in a ceremony attended by the who’s who of the entertainment industry.

The theme of the wedding was black and gold with big Versace wallpaper around the venue, and expensive champagne was sipped at every table.

Sources who attended the wedding say they were gearing up to see if Doja Cat would touch down on her ancestral land for the first time ever.

“We do not know the current status of their relationship, as they haven’t met,” said one of the sources who spoke to Sunday World.

“Dumisani said he last saw her when she was young, but seeing that it was his wedding, we anticipated that she’ll be present, but she wasn’t.”

Another source said: “Even though the wedding ceremony went [ahead] as planned, I can tell that he was hurt by what transpired with regards to his daughter’s absence.

“It raised a lot of questions about their relationship.

“I think Dumisani will make things right by reaching out to her and let her connect in person with her siblings. It was odd not to see her at the wedding.”

The father of seven, famous for his roles in eHostela, Isibaya, Yizo Yizo, and many other TV shows, was previously engaged to Girlie Nhlengethwa and Nandi Ndlovu.

In a recent interview with a radio station based in the US, Doja Cat was quoted saying: “I don’t know him very well, but he’s a great performer.”

Dlamini met Doja Cat’s mother Deborah Sawyer, a Jewish and American actress and painter, while he was on tour with the historical Sarafina.

He would not be drawn into commenting about why the Say So hitmaker was not present at his wedding.
