Duo Amu Classic, Kappie say collaborations are difficult

Duos seem to be the in thing these days for many amapiano artists.

Musicians Amukelani Mnisi, fondly known as Amu Classic, and Kappie, whose real name is Linda Mahlomola Sibata, say they chose to be a duo because they believe in their abilities as a team.

Speaking to Sunday World this week, the multi-talented duo said they have a better understanding of each other and are able to do amazing work together.

They aim to do big in their music craft after years of following their passion.

Amu Classic and Kappie are both from Diepkloof in Soweto and started their careers in 2017. They have since been close and have been working together throughout the years.

Their music journey officially began in 2019 when they started producing their first EP.

“We released an EP called Success, which created huge platforms for us as a brand and [we were] signed to a record label called Simnandi Records,” said the duo.

“We also did an album titled One For The World, which brought us to greater heights and led to our departure in 2022 when we started our own record label called Umzonkonko Music Academy.”

Second album

Their first hit song under their record label was Woza La. The duo has since been working on a second album titled School of Excellence.

Amu Classic and Kappie said they believe collaborations are difficult because no one knows who wants to win and who is in it just for the fame.

“For us, it is working with people who have been with us for years like LeeMcKrazy, Mashudu, MuziqalTone, and many more.

“But we have good working relationships with everyone we work with, we are basically a family.”

They said their biggest highlight so far has been being able to host events in different places and playing in different provinces.

Another highlight was their first album getting gold status.

They added that their journey could not have been easy without the love and support from their families.
