Oh, what a grand moment it was when a special invite landed on my lap for the Launch Of Something Big By Metro FM Mbombela Mpumalanga. Your Lady in Gossip was treated like a queen, thank you.
The organisers, the SABC and Metro FM, kept everyone, including their listeners, in the dark about what this shindig was all about.
The suspense was palpable, even when a tweet posted saying “something big is coming this year”, no one had a clue, including moi, who, usually gets to know things before anyone else.
Good for you SABC and Metro FM. The launch surely kept the paparazzi digging and guessing.
Enough with praising the organisers for their sterling embargo. I expected to be treated to a short flight from Joburg to Mbombela but was subjected to a three-hour road trip to Mpumalanga in scorching heat. Phew!
I needed someone to fan me, you know moi, the lady cannot dare fan herself, but there was this hunk sitting next to me and he offered to do the honours. There are still courteous gentlemen out there. That’s when moi begun enjoying the bus trip.
Besides the stud next to me, moi enjoyed being among a group of lovely creatives. You know I like things, so I had a field of a time among the young, some were looking like Ama2000s, not to mention refreshments.
Moi thanked her lucky stars. The do started on time on Wednesday evening and everything was on schedule. Guests were dressed to the nines, not over the top. The aim was not to sweat in the Mbombela heat!
Shwa was impressed with the décor, the food was 5-star, the hospitality was out of this world, what moi always expects, and of course an open bar. We were entertained by local artists from the city of Mbombela.
Moi found herself among the new and the old of A-listers, DJ Pruluv of Metro FM was there, being fly as usual, and I also bumped into publicist Simphiwe Majola
Spotted Miss Mpumalanga Lungile Fakude smiling and greeting everyone. Don’t beauty queens get tired of smiling?
Who was left at your Joburg headquarters if all of Metro FM’s staffers were in Mbombela? Also saw radio host Lerato Kganyago socialising after her deck session. Oh, nearly forgot, Chilla Flamez gave a sterling performance.
Finally, Nada Wotshela, the SABC Radio group exec, made the big reveal – the return of the popular and humongous annual Metro FM. Music Awards, to be hosted in Mbombela on April 29.
A deafening applause followed. The MMAs are back with a bang.
It’s a Freedom Day long weekend and your Lady in Gossip will be there to spill the tea for you.
