Limpopo born beauty queen Phomolo Tjie has been crowned this year’s Miss International South Africa.
Tjie will jet off to Tokyo, Japan later to represent the country in the world beauty pageant.
She was crowned over the weekend in Rosebank and as part of her prize she walked away with R200 000 and other goodies.
The 24-year-old beauty queen said she was looking forward to representing the country on a global platform.
She added that winning the crown would give her “an excellent opportunity to come up with groundbreaking strategies in entrepreneurship, education, and social projects aimed at providing sustainable solutions to poverty, disease, and other societal ills”.
Miss International South Africa aims to empower young women by providing them with a platform to showcase their talents and represent South Africa on a global stage.
This year the pageant had a rocky start after founder and former Miss SA Teen, Katlego Ncala, dragged businessman Tony De Sousa to the high court over the replication of her pageant.
Ncala filed an urgent application and was granted a trial date to fight for her pageant concept which she claims is being hijacked by De Sousa.
In the court application, which Sunday World has seen, Ncala who has been running the pageant for two years accused De Sousa of failing to be an honourable businessman by dumping her as a licence rights holder and creating his own pageant to rival hers.
The matter is still pending at the high court.
