July 2021 will go down in history as one of the darkest periods in democratic South Africa. A group of individuals planned for a widespread destruction of businesses which was accompanied by looting. People lost their businesses and livelihoods, and thousands more lost their jobs and ability to fend for their families. The jailing of former president Jacob Zuma was stated for the reason behind the planned mayhem. On Wednesday, one of the instigators, Mdumiseni Zuma, was sentenced to 12 years in jail for his role in the nasty project of unrest which gripped parts of Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal and shook the nation.
Mdumiseni Zuma’s crime as presented in the Pietermaritzburg magistrate’s court was his involvement in the burning down of Brookside Mall in Pietermaritzburg. Though the mall returned to business last year, many of the lost jobs were never regained. Which means there are people who are unemployed today because of Zuma and some of his ilk. For that reason, Mdumiseni, you’re a moegoe.
