Amakhosi expected to unveil 10 new players

Johannesburg – Kaizer Chiefs are busy on the transfer market finalising their squad for next season after a whirlwind 2020/21 campaign.

This past season, they could not sign players after Fifa slapped them with a transfer ban following their controversial acquisition of Madagascar and Fosa Junior midfielder Andriamirado “Dax” Andrianarimanana.

News reaching Sunday World are that Amakhosi will unveil a total of 10 players who will be expected to resuscitate the Glamour Boys of SA football.

SA Under-23 captain Tercious Malepe is expected to be one of high-profile signings that Chiefs will announce.

Other players that are anticipated to wear the famous black and gold gear are Sibusiso Mabiliso, Sao Tome and Principe defender Jardel Nazare, Brandon Peterson, Phathu Nange, and the Swallows FC trio of Njabulo “Roadblock” Ngcobo, Kgaogelo Sekgota and Ruzaigh Gamildien.

Sifiso Hlanti, also from Swallows, had signed for Amakhosi but was allowed to get some game time at the Beautiful Birds until the Fifa ban was over.

The recently departed Amakhosi coach Gavin Hunt soldiered on with the players he found at the club until he was relieved of his duties three weeks ago.

The club was languishing in the bottom half of the league table flirting with relegation play-offs, becoming a laughingstock when they entered the top-eight bracket via the back door.

But the club made history by reaching the semi-finals of the CAF Champions League for the first time ever.

“The guys are working extremely hard in the office to get the best players. Amakhosi supporters have been suffering and it is time to make them smile again. What I can tell is that the announcement is going to be massive,” said a Chiefs insider who opted to remain anonymous.

The club has made wholesome changes to their technical team with the arrival of Stuart Baxter for his second term as head coach.

Former Bafana Bafana trainer Molefi Ntseki is also on board as the head of technical and youth development academy.

Baxter’s first assignment will see him work with Arthur Zwane and Dillon Sheppard as they prepare for the CAF Champions League semi-finals against Wydad Casablanca.
