Rookies Sekhukhune reinforce team with two defenders

Johannesburg – Limpopo-based PSL club Sekhukhune United has announced the signing of two players in preparation for the new 2021/2022 season in the DStv Premiership.

With preparations for the season in full swing, Sekhukhune United FC are delighted to announce its latest additions to strengthen the squad, rookies Babina Noko said in a statement released on Tuesday.

The club, promoted from the national first division GladAfrica Championship last season, continues reinforcing the team leading to the start of their debut season scheduled to kick off next month.

“Sekhukhune United FC is pleased to announce the signing of Ryan de Jongh and Nicholus Lukhubeni,” the club said.

Defenders Lukhubeni and De Jongh have been snapped up from Tshwane-based Premiership champions Mamelodi Sundowns and Free State club Bloemfontein Celtic respectively.

De Jongh joins Sekhukhune on a permanent contract while Lukhubeni is on a season-long loan spell at the newly-promoted club.

Sekhukhune described De Jongh, 31, from Westbury as a “model professional, who plays both as a central midfielder and right back”. He has also played for FC AKA, Platinum Stars and Maritzburg United.

Right-back Lukhubeni, 25, was promoted to the Sundowns senior side from feeder club M Tigers, who campaigned in the third tier league in 2019.

Before joining M Tigers in 2016, Lukhubeni had a brief spell with Highlands Park Old Eds, Balfour Alexandra FC and Godisanang FC, among other amateur clubs.
