Arthur Zwane heartbroken by Blom stalling on contract renewal

Kaizer Chiefs coach Arthur Zwane is upset and heartbroken by the latest turn of events regarding Njabulo Blom’s contractual talks with Amakhosi.

Talks have apparently hit a snag between Blom’s agent Rob Moore and the Soweto giants. Blom’s contract expires at the end of the season and Amakhosi were looking to tie him down with a long-term contract.

Zwane is so upset about the matter that he even refused to engage on the topic with the media at the club’s headquarters on Thursday.

Zwane, who is usually a straight shooter and never holds back when it comes to pertinent matters, said he would prefer to talk about the Chiefs game against AmaZulu in a DStv Premiership fixture scheduled for FNB Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

“I would like to focus on the AmaZulu game. The management will deal with the issue of Njabulo. There’s nothing bad between us, I treat all my boys with special care and we come a long way,” said Zwane, who was visibly unhappy.

“I love them all and wish the best for them. I would not want to comment on the agent.”

But an insider, who did not want to be named, said Zwane was piqued by the developments.

“Coach Zwane literally picked up that boy from the streets of Soweto and brought him to the club,” said a Chiefs insider.

“Even though Blom is from Soweto, Zwane made sure that he would stay in the development facilities – boys from around are transported back and forth to Soweto and surrounding areas and they do not reside at the club [house].

“Only players from other provinces stay here at the club [house]. So, Zwane took the boy from his father and took him to Chiefs, he is more hurt that the boy did not tell him about Rob Moore and their demands. He really feels let down and is emotional about the Blom issue.”

Moore is an uncompromising negotiator who is still handling the affairs of former Bafana Bafana star player Benni McCarthy.

He was instrumental in getting McCarthy to Manchester United as one of the coaches. Previously, he was the business manager of Steven “Schilo” Pienaar and Aaron Mokoena who also played overseas.
