Former Bafana Bafana and Al Ahly coach Pitso Mosimane has has revealed that he is ready to put out the fires at Kaizer Chiefs if he gets approached to take one of the hottest coaching seats on the continent.
Mosimane said this when he was talking to Sunday World Engage this week.
Amakhosi have been struggling on the playing front and started the 2022/23 season on the back foot, and had to fire their coach Molefi Ntseki, who had a roller-coaster ride in his first few matches in charge.
After his dismissal, Amakhosi brought in Cavin Johnson on a caretaker basis until the end of the season, when they will appoint and full-time head coach.
The name of Mosimane has been linked to the Amakhosi job. Mosimane says it is a project that interests him.
“I have not officially got an offer. I will tell you how we work at my agency MT Sports. I do not talk to clubs. Everybody knows that if they want to talk to us they must speak to MT Sports. As a person, you may get excited, because you may like the club. But it’s not about that, this is a business, and it must be a project,” Mosimane said.
“I speak to everybody at Chiefs, I talk to Jessica, she moves around a lot at Caf. I talk to Kemiso, I saw them at a memorial service last week. But we did not talk about football. I also want to win things again, maybe with a different club or country. I would like to leave a legacy everywhere.
“I have had my own challenges. When I started at Supersport United, they were relegated, and I took them to group stages of Caf Champions League and then six cup finals in a row.
“Chiefs not winning a cup for eight years, these things happen. I can put out the fires. I have always had to put out the fires, all my career. I will have to do things that were not done in the last six years. When I arrived at Mamelodi Sundowns, they had not won a single trophy in six years, and they were number 14 on the PSL log table.
“The issue is what is their short and long-term plans. It’s like in business, it works like that. Chiefs always had star players and they were beating everybody, that’s why the brand is big. I saw their game against Moroka Swallows recently and I think they need a little bit of work,” he added.
