Ntseki to seek a job in Cosafa region

Johannesburg – Recently departed Bafana Bafana coach Molefi Ntseki will be looking for a coaching job in the Cosafa region after he officially parted ways with the South African Football Association (Safa).

Ntseki’s business manager, Thato Matuka, said that they will sit down and map the way forward after hopes of returning to the SA senior national team were quashed, even though new head coach Hugo Broos wanted him as his assistant.

“We want to thank Safa for the opportunity they gave to the coach. It’s time to move on and we will look at other available options. We will look at the Cosafa regions for the coach. There may be one or two positions available. Coach Nteski still has so much to offer at national team level,” said Matuka.

On Friday, Safa CEO Tebogo Motlanthe confi rmed that the association and the former SA Under-17 coach parted ways amicably following reports that the former coach may just launch a surprise return as Safa’s technical director.

“I sat down with coach Ntseki and his representatives on Thursday and they showed a lot of professionalism. There is no bad blood between Safa and him. We will welcome him back with open arms if that was to happen. But for now, the matt er with coach Nteski is closed.”

Matuka did not rule out coaching at club level and mentioned that Ntseki could work very well with clubs in Ntseki’s home province, the Free State.

“He is a professional coach and it will be just a matter of adjusting from national team level to club level,” Matuka added.

Born in Botshabelo, the 51-year-old Ntseki became caretaker coach of Bafana after Stuart Baxter was sacked in 2019.

Ntseki was later promoted to head coach but failed to lead SA to qualify for the 2021 Afcon finals.
