Chiefs likely to face wrath of PSL prosecutor … yet again

Kaizer Chiefs fans may have landed the club in more trouble with the league prosecutor after their violent behaviour after losing 1-0 to SuperSport United on Wednesday night.

Head coach Molefi Ntseki needed a police escort to leave the grounds in Polokwane.

Chiefs football manager Bobby Motaung was seen pleading with outraged fans, saying: “We are hearing your concerns.”

This after Amakhosi suffered their third loss in seven games.

Amakhosi are on a suspended sentence after similar scenes were witnessed when they lost 1-0 to TS Galaxy at the Mbombela Stadium on August 20.

They were charged and fined R100 000 of which R30 000 was suspended for 24 months on condition that they are not found guilty of the same offence.

In May, towards the end of last season, former head coach Arthur Zwane was hit with an object after another ugly incident following Chiefs’ 1-0 loss to SuperSport in Rustenburg.

Chiefs fans have been on a rampage since the beginning of the season, pelting Ntseki with an assortment of missiles.

The former Bafana Bafana coach has had to leave various stadiums under tight security and police escort.

Earlier in September, the club was forced by a Premier Soccer League (PSL) disciplinary committee (DC) ruling to write a letter of apology to the league and stakeholders for the violent scenes after a defeat to Galaxy.

“I can confirm that Kaizer Chiefs appeared before the PSL DC to answer to charges of misconduct relating to the missile-throwing incident otherwise known as spectator misbehaviour in their fixture against TS Galaxy,” said PSL prosecutor Zola Majavu at the time.

“They pleaded guilty as charged and they were subsequently convicted. Chiefs were further directed to send a written apology to the league and the sponsors, and to also carry that apology on their website.”

Reads a letter of apology that Chiefs penned to league bosses: “Kaizer Chiefs hereby unreservedly apologises to the PSL, all PSL member clubs, TS Galaxy FC and all of its peace-loving supporters for the behaviour of some of its supporters at the club’s PSL fixture against TS Galaxy FC at Mbombela Stadium on 20 August 2023.

“The club condemns this poor and unacceptable behaviour in the strongest possible terms.

“We have commenced a process of engaging with Kaizer Chiefs’ branches on supporter behaviour at football matches.”

It seems like more trouble is headed Chiefs’ way after unsavoury incidents in Polokwane.
