Kaizer Chiefs use Fifa break to restore hope to youngsters

With the core of the squad not on national team duty, Kaizer Chiefs used part of their Fifa break to host the youngsters of Royal Tigers Football Academy at the Kaizer Chiefs Village to meet and mingle with their idols.

Chiefs, in partnership with Toyota, hosted a “heart on the sleeve” CSI activation – an initiative that aims to give hope and inspire young footballers through training clinics.

The Royal Tigers players were welcomed inside the famous Chiefs village through a guard of honour by some of their favorites stars.

They also got an opportunity to train with them.

As part of the main objectives of the initiative, Chiefs sporting director Kaizer Motaung Jr said the club intends to continue hosting programmes of this nature, noting that it will help give hope to the future of local football.

“The bigger plan for us is to always give back to our communities,” Motaung Jnr said.

“This team belongs to the people and no one else personally. Even our chairman [Kaizer Motaung] always emphasises that this team belongs to the people, and part of the plan is to get this brand closer to our people.

“This kind of initiative means everything to us – you might think it’s only about meeting with the players, but it is beyond that – it is about hope and dreams.

“And the message that we hope comes from this day is that despite where I come from and my circumstances, if I believe and dream, anything is possible.

“This is not a once-off soccer clinic, we are looking to partner in many ways that will affect the youth, because the youth is the future of tomorrow.”

Amakhosi will be back in action in the DStv Premiership when they travel to KwaZulu-Natal to face high-flying Golden Arrows at the Mpumalanga Stadium in Durban on October 28.
