Modiba expects tough game against wounded Polokwane City

Mamelodi Sundowns defender Aubrey Modiba is anticipating a difficult game against Polokwane City when they lock horns in a DStv Premiership match at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Wednesday.

Masandawana will go toe-to-toe against a wounded City side that comes from the back of a narrow 3-2 defeat to Golden Arrows over the weekend.

On the other hand, Sundowns are one on a winning spree after winning their last five league games. Even so, Modiba says he is wary of the threat City pose when they play at home.

“They have done fairly well because they are currently number five on the log, which goes to show that they are doing something right,” Modiba said ahead of the fixture.

“But we have got players who will be able to put out a good performance on the day so that we will be able to collect the maximum points.

“Playing in their backyard won’t be easy because their supporters will be behind them, but I think we are ready for the game, and we’ll do well. They just came back from a loss, and it was away from home.

“Now they will be playing at home, and we expect them to approach the game differently. You could see with the game they lost [against Arrows], they still scored goals which shows that we can’t take them lightly.

“We must make sure that we take our chances and defend well because they can hurt us anytime.”

Despite Rise and Shine, as City is affectionately known, having been unlucky on the road, they have turned Peter Mokaba into their slaughterhouse, with both their league wins coming from their home fixtures.

It will also be a touching fixture for former Polokwane City midfielder Sammy Seabi, who will be on the other side of the bench after being recalled by coach Rulani Mokwena after two loan spells since joining the Brazilians.
